Nauru is an island state in the Oceania of Micronesia, independent since 1968, consisting of a single island of 21.4 km² with 10 000 inhabitants.

The Netherlands, located in the north-west of Europe, are best known for their flat landscape full of canals, tulip fields, windmills and cycle paths. In Amsterdam, the capital, there are the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the house where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War. The typical houses overlooking the canal and the collection of works by artists such as Rembrandt and Vermeer have remained to testify to the so-called “Golden Age” which affected the city in the 17th century.

The name ‘Netherlands Antilles’ is sometimes used to indicate the Caribbean islands which are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. 

New Caledonia is a French territory in the South Pacific which includes a dozen islands. Known for its palm-lined beaches, it has a lagoon full of underwater life which, with its 24,000 square km, is among the largest in the world. A huge coral reef surrounds the main island, Grand Terre, a favorite destination for scuba divers. The capital, Nouméa, is home to numerous French-style restaurants and luxury shops selling Parisian fashion.

New Zealand is located southwest of the Pacific Ocean and consists of two main islands formed by the action of volcanoes and glaciations. The capital Wellington, in the North Island, is home to the Te Papa Tongarewa, the great national museum. The scenes from Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” set in Middle-earth were shot on spectacular Mount Victoria near Wellington, also in Fiordland and Southern Lakes on the South Island.

Nicaragua, set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, is a Central American nation known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches. Vast Lake Managua and the iconic stratovolcano Momotombo sit north of the capital Managua. To its south is Granada, noted for its Spanish colonial architecture and an archipelago of navigable islets rich in tropical bird life.

Niger is a landlocked state of West Africa. It borders Algeria and Libya to the north, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south and Burkina Faso and Mali to the west. It owes its name to the Niger River that flows through it. The capital is Niamey, south-west of the country.

Nigeria, an African country on the Gulf of Guinea, has many natural landmarks and wildlife reserves. Protected areas such as Cross River National Park and Yankari National Park have waterfalls, dense rainforest, savanna and rare primate habitats. One of the most recognizable sites is Zuma Rock, a 725m-tall monolith outside the capital of Abuja that’s pictured on the national currency.
